North Coast Sisterlocks Gathering #2

Mad props to GiGirl, who once again took the lead in organizing our second North Coast Sisterlock's Gathering. We met at Sofrito's PuertoRican Restaurant in Oakland - which was a last minute plan B, as our originally scheduled gathering place did not open as planned, and could not accommodate us. It was all good though, Sofrito, while definitely in the cut, proved to have delicious food, and one of the very handsome owners, Ali, himself attended to, and served us.

It was wonderful to see most of the ladies who attended our first gathering there, and some new faces as well. My dear friend Eileen although not yet Sisterlocked, came through sporting her braids. I'm working on her, and have enlisted the help of my Sisterlocked community to help her work through her OPH issues. She actually has a beautiful shoulder length head of natural hair which would look amazing in SL's, but those of us who've been where she is, can attest to the fact that it's not easy making the decision, and even harder seeing it through. Going from a glamour weave to plucked chicken baby locks, can be heavy duty on the self esteem.

Overall, we had a good time. My consultant came out, which was a first, and two of her other clients were there as well, as well as their sister, who is also locked but has a different consultant. My consultant has the most beautiful locks - she is featured in this year's Sisterlock Calendar for this month (April). Two of the ladies had a mini reunion as they went to college together and had not seen each other in years, but were brought together for this event through Sisterlocks.

What an awesome group of ladies! I can't wait until the next event.

Your hair is beautiful. I'm looking for a consultant recommendation in the SF Bay Area. Can you help me? If so, please email me at wash2552@gmail.com. Thanks.

Chosen, we wish you could have joined us, it was a great time. We were talking about going to Homecoming in July, hopefully we can hook up with you there. Let us know though, if and when you come back to Vacaville, that's where I live, and I'm sure if we know in advance, we can set something up.

Cali Mom - Thank you for the kind compliment. My consultant is Wendy Irvin in Berkeley, she's listed on the Sisterlocks.com website, and is awesome! I'll hit you on your E-mail though with the particulars.

Creyole - Thank you! We had a really nice time. The sister with the bangs is my consultant Wendy. She was featured in this years Sisterlock calendar for the month of April. I am so, so, guilty coveting her hair. Pray for me :o)

n'drea - catawampus huh? If that means a good time, yep, we had it! Now I have a new word to add to my vocabulary. Thanks sis!

queenli - showing out, or showing my age? I just can't get with what passes for music these days. I never thought I'd see the day when I would be talking about "back in my day" but I love the old school, REAL music. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

There you are,

I've been checking your blog over the past couple of weeks hoping for an update. I'm sure life is keeping you busy but it's nice to hear from you. How's the locks? As you can see, mine have grown quite a bit over the past year. However, my hair is so thick that I still can't get it into a decent ponytail. I need a couple more inches so hopefully by June 2008 I'll be there.

Wishing you all the best in 2008 and remember........we're waiting in anticipation for the next blog update (smile)
